The Parents’ Place of Maryland, in partnership with the Office for Genetics and People with Special Health Care Needs (OGPSHCN) in the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, was awarded a federal “State Implementation Planning Grant for Improving Services for Children and Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other Developmental Disabilities” from the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

The purpose of this grant was to develop a comprehensive statewide plan for Maryland to improve the system of health and related services for CYSHCN who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Developmental Disabilities (DD) as defined by the six core outcomes/ standards of care for CYSHCN. Project co-directors were Josie Thomas (PPMD) and Dr. Debbie Badawi (OGPSHCN).

2012 Regional Strategic Planning Meetings:
We know that the needs of children and families are different in different regions of the state, and our state plan must reflect the unique needs of each region. In 2012, we held a series of day-long strategic planning meetings in each region of Maryland, as well as a statewide meeting, with representation from families, local gnd state government agencies, community and professional organizations, health care and service providers, and academic centers in order to come up with a plan that will work. People at these meetings and anyone who reviews the meeting documents below and responds to the survey will have direct input into the plan.
